Born in Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Chung and her family moved to the Chicago-land area in 1975. She was introduced at a very early age to the art and healing affects of Chinese medicine by her loving parents. She remembers her parents giving her assorted teas and taking her to the acupuncturist for the common everyday malady and a variety of sports related injuries she had sustained while practicing gymnastics.
She received her Bachelor of Science from Ball State University, before earning her doctoral degree in chiropractic and certificate in acupuncture from National College of Chiropractic in 1998. While studying at BSU, she received an athletic scholarship for gymnastics, where she finished off her 13 year career. While in university, alternative medicine was frowned upon, so her only means of healthcare was traditional western medicine. “Because of my own personal experiences with chronic sports injuries and low back pain, I realized that many traditional healthcare professionals only try to conceal the symptoms with pharmaceuticals. If I had been treated as a whole individual and not just for the symptoms, I feel I might have enjoyed the latter years of my gymnastics career far more. I realized at a young age how pain can devastate your life and the importance of a doctor that takes the time and has the knowledge to treat you from the beginning phases of an injury to full recovery.”
Dr. Chung wanted to help others in similar situations without the use of medicine and surgery. She brings eight years of experience and lifelong knowledge to Balancing Point: Center for Wellness, of which she founded in 2000. She now leverages her training and knowledge of both eastern and western medicine to provide her patients with customized, appropriate treatments in order to obtain the optimal level of healing and care. She embodies the value of treating the needs of the whole person as opposed to only focusing on the symptoms. Her philosophy includes Thomas Edison’s belief that “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.” She and her well trained staff of physical therapist and massage therapists work collaboratively to help each patient, from the elderly to the elite athlete, in order to successfully achieve their highest level of well-being. Her compassionate and holistic approach to each individual is why her business not only continues to grow in size, but also recognition throughout the community.
Dr. Kristina Chung is a member of both the Illinois Chiropractic Society and the American Chiropractic Association. |
